What will I get with a Freemium account?
Freemium members can get a first look at the type and volume of enquiries that Quotatis has available in their area. You can monitor the amount of enquiries that come in each week before deciding whether it is cost-effective to sign up for a premium account with Quotatis. You can also build your own free business profile so customers can find out more about your services, once it’s complete it will be uploaded to the Quotatis Directory of UK Trade Professionals.

Quotatis will contact you regarding setting up an account and if you like what you see on the Freemium account and would like to start accessing more leads we have put together a number of lead packages for 5, 10, 20 or 30 leads per month for our members to choose from.
You gave us feedback that you would like membership certificates to evidence your membership of QANW. We’re happy to let you know that these are ready for you to download! You don’t need to worry about waiting for these to be posted out to you, they are available now through your members’ area. Once logged in you should be able to see a new tab at the top menu bar that says “Membership Certificate” simply click on this tab to download your copy.
You can print as many certificates as you want and these can be provided to homeowners as proof of your membership. Homeowners can check your contact details at any time by using our “Find Your Installer” page which can be found within the Consumer section of the QANW website (http://www.qanw.co.uk/find-your-installer-search/).

During the first half of 2017 we have been finalising the development of an app to allow our members to manage their jobs on-the-go. We are excited to announce that our app is now live! The app is exclusively to a few of our scheme at the moment to allow us to gather feedback and make any changes before rolling out to all.
The app has a very similar look to your new members’ area so should feel familiar, and will feed directly into your members’ area so you don’t need to worry about having to complete the same actions on both platforms.

May saw the return of the FIT show and it was billed to be the biggest and best yet with the show moving to the NEC Birmingham- and it certainly did not disappoint! QANW teamed up with Certass on their stand and were ready to meet and speak with the industry. A definite highlight of the show had to be the life size versions of Mr & Mrs FIT running around the aisles of the NEC stopping for photos with both attendees and exhibitors.
The stand was bright and open with light boxes featuring some of the special show offers and a large TV screen featuring our new insurance backed guarantee (IBG) animated video. We had a great team of knowledgeable staff covering various aspects of the business which allowed most queries raised by both members and non-members to be answered on the day. As a special feature of the stand to help promote the IBG video we had a popcorn machine that certainly went down a treat, with attendees queueing to grab a bag!
We had plenty to talk about at the show with the launch of our new members’ area on the Monday before the show (22nd May), our upcoming industry first App launch and also the launch of our new membership options; QA Standard, QA Plus and QA Premium.

As many of you will will be aware, the Government announced in the Autumn statement that Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) is to increase to 12% from the current rate of 10%. This will take effect from 1st June 2017.
All contracts of insurance have IPT levied on them; similar to VAT, however one of the differences with IPT is that it is simply passed directly to the HMRC.
As Insurance Backed Guarantees (IBGs) purchased by you are insurance products, they are affected by this tax rate increase. IPT becomes payable when we receive the premium from you, which means that the rate of IPT is governed by the date at which you pay the premium to us.
This means that all taxable premiums received on or after the implementation date the rate change (i.e. 1st June 2017) will bear the new 12% rate of tax and any premiums received before the implementation date (up to 31st May 2017) will be subject to tax at the existing rate of 10%.

For the sixth year running, QANW are proudly supporting this year’s NHIC awards and we would like you to submit a project for consideration. The QANW award is for “Home Improvement with Community Benefit”.
We are looking for a project that provided a building upgrade, which led to greater efficiency for the resident(s)/employees and may have also given a community benefit. The project can be anything from an installation that stood out due to installation challenges that were overcome, or where there was a form of specific community engagement…it can be anything! Previous winners have developed new installation concepts, industry leading safety regimes and specific home safety devices such as specifically designed locks for domestic windows and doors.

The rise will be the third increase by the Government since November 2015 and means that IPT will have doubled from 6% to 12% in less than two years. The latest increase marks the sixth time the standard rate has been increased since its introduction in 1997.
So you might be wondering what does this mean for you?
As insurance backed guarantees purchased by you are an insurance product, they are affected by this rate increase.
Accordingly we will be working through the pricing tables for each of our insurance schemes and will notify you accordingly of the changes being made over the coming weeks.
QANW are pleased to announce the launch of our very first contractor survey. This is an important opportunity for you, the contractor, to provide us with important feedback and tell us what your thoughts are across a number of key areas.
The results of the survey will be used to formulate our strategy planning and will enable us to improve the services and products we provide to you.
The survey, available to you through your member’s area will run for 6 weeks. We have a total of 3 prizes to give away at then end of each 2-week period, winners will be selected at random from successful completions.

QANW/GPI are delighted to announce a new members’ area feature, which will provide comfort that a policy has been ordered; and will give you the opportunity to view the policy you’ve purchased for your customer.
Now live on your members’ area: You can view the insurance policies purchased on the behalf of your customers, and these will remain on your members’ area for the term of the policy.
This is purely intended to be your own copy of the policy. Under no uncertain terms should it be downloaded and issued to your customer. This is because you are not regulated by the FCA to deal in insurance; and you have not been authorised by the insurer to bind it to contracts of insurance. QANW/GPI will continue to issue the policy of insurance directly to the customer.
You do not need to take any action to activate this feature, this has already been done and you see below some screenshots from the members’ area to demonstrate this new feature.
Within the Reports section of your members’ area, there is a new section headed Policies where you will see the full list of policies which have been applied for by you:

You will all now be aware that – as of June 2014 – it is a requirement to freely provide financial protection to your customers. This was established in the Department for Communities and Local Government’s latest conditions of authorisation for competent person schemes. Your competent person scheme may have notified you of this, and you will accordingly be working with these rules in mind. However, the new rules are not the only reasons why you must provide insurance backed guarantees, freely, to all of your domestic customers. Insurance is a regulated, financial product and the provision of insurance is subject to strict controls. The main source of authority on this is the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, Section 19 of which sets out that only firms which are authorised by the regulator (such as QANW) may carry out a regulated activity by “way of business”. This ordinarily excludes unregulated firms from providing insurance.
However, the key phrase is “way of business”. The regulator provides guidance on what this phrase means.
If a business carries out an activity with the intention of being remunerated in respect of the insurance, this is considered to be carrying out regulated activity by “way of business”. Remuneration needn’t be purely financial; if there is an expectation of an increased chance of a sale by “enhancing” one particular product over another by virtue of the inclusion of the insurance, that too can be considered remuneration and consequently, carrying out regulated activity by way of business. Accordingly, in order to provide your customers with insurance backed guarantees, you must ensure that you are not providing the insurance in a manner that can be considered by “way of business”.
These key provisions are reflected in QANW’s terms and conditions for contractors, so all QANW members should already be operating on that basis; however, it is crucial that you continue to do so, in order to remain on the correct side of regulation and legislation.
What’s the bottom line?
What this all means in practice is that, whenever you use the services of QANW to provide insurance backed guarantees to your domestic customers, you must bear the following in mind:
- You must provide the insurance to your customers freely. You must not charge customers for the insurance.
- You must provide the insurance, consistently, to all of your domestic customers. You must not, for example, use insurance as a means to “enhance” one of your quotations over another, by virtue of the inclusion of the Insurance.
- You must not provide the customer with advice on the insurance. When your customers have any questions regarding the insurance, they should be directed immediately to QANW, who will be happy to answer any questions that the customer may have.
- You must not give the customer the ability to determine whether or not they wish to take up the insurance (for example, by providing the customer with an “opt-out” with respect to the insurance). This amounts again to offering insurance. You are not regulated to arrange insurance in this manner, and QANW already provides policyholder with the facility to cancel the insurance if they so desire.
